It’s the dream of every Android user to have a fast phone with improved performance and fluidity. This is not always the case due to numerous memory consuming apps we install on our phones on daily basis.
These apps consume your phone’s memory, storage, and other resources so as to be able to function thus causing your device to lag, slow down or even freeze. I have experienced this on some few occasions until I discovered how to make my android phone faster with these tips and tricks I am about to share with you.
1. ONLY KEEP THE APPS YOU USE
Some friends bring me their phones to check why it’s lagging and freezing all the time. I check only to find out they have installed lots of needless apps and these apps are eating up the phone’s memory hence the freezing. The oldest rule in the book is to only install apps you will use or need.
Most of these ‘needless apps’ (that’s how I like to call them) run all the time and not only consume your internet data but also burden your phone’s hardware. Uninstalling them will do your phone a lot of good.
2. ALWAYS CLEAN UP YOUR PHONE MEMORY
One thing I like about Android is that it can close unwanted processes on your phone at any time to free up your phone memory. You can also do this by installing apps that clean your phone memory.
I can’t recommend any of such apps for now but what I can tell you is, don’t go for apps that promise to make your phone super-fast. They will rather end up making your phone even slower. Once you clear your RAM, all unwanted apps that are running in the background will be closed thereby giving your phone’s performance a quick boost.
3. USE LITE VERSIONS OF APPS
Some apps come with a Lite version. This version as the name implies is light in weight and is designed for people who love simplicity. Apps such as Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and other popular apps have Lite versions which you can download and use.
Using Lite apps will not put much stress on your phone hence no issues with lagging or freezing. Lite apps also do not consume much data.
4. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PHONE UPDATED
Keeping your Android device updated is one sure way of making your phone run faster. This is because updates come with performance improvements to help your device perform better.
Although its good to update your device, overdoing it is also not the best. I’m sure you know that everything has its downside. For instance, if your device has low storage space, updating it will eat up the remaining space and that will cause your device to lag or freeze.
5. UPDATE APPS ONLY OVER Wi-Fi
For apps to work effectively, they need to update themselves from time to time. Most of these apps update themselves automatically in the background by uploading files, photos, videos, etc. This process eats up your phone memory and storage thereby making your phone slow aside consuming your internet data.
To prevent this, turn off background data and also set your apps to update only when you’re connected to Wi-Fi. You can learn how to do that here.
6. FREE YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY BY SAVING YOUR DATA IN THE CLOUD
Cloud storage is the new deal now. Keeping your data in the cloud will help free up your phone’s internal memory which plays a very vital role when it comes to making your run faster. You can also access your data at any time and on any device when they are saved in the cloud.
7. DON’T OVERLOAD YOUR HOMESCREEN
Having nice widgets and live wallpapers on your homescreen look nice. But all these nice stuff come at the expense of your phone’s hardware and performance. Overloading your homescreen with lots of apps, live wallpapers and widgets affect your phone’s performance negatively.
You’ll even realize that apps on the homescreen take time to load and you have to wait for them to load before continuing with what you’re doing else your phone will freeze. It’s always advisable to keep your homescreen as clean as possible so as to make your phone run faster.
8. APPS SHOULD BE INSTALLED ON THE INTERNAL MEMORY
This will not go down for those whose phones come with low internal memory. But then, even low budget phones in recent times come with high internal memories from 16GB which is very good and enough for the average user.
Apps tend to run faster when installed on the internal memory instead of an external SD card. This is even one of the reasons why some phones do not come with SD card slots because the SD cards tend to slow down the device.
9. SOMETIMES ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS TO RESTART YOUR PHONE
I do this most of the time even when my device isn’t lagging or freezing. Restarting your device will help delete some temporary files, clean up your phone memory and in the end speed up your phone.
10. RESET YOUR ANDROID PHONE
A factory reset is the final option when it comes to making your device faster. This is your go-to option if your device is lagging and freezing beyond control to the extent you can’t even use it for basic operations. Now, make sure you try as much as possible to back up your data before running a factory reset. If you already use the cloud storage then you are good to go.
For a normal factory reset, go to settings and navigate to factory reset. This will perform a reset on your device and wipe out all data including videos, files, images, etc.
The second option is to perform a hard reset. You can do this by booting your phone into recovery mode. To boot your device into recovery mode, turn it off and then press the power and volume down button for about 5-10 seconds.
I’ll advise you to stick to the normal reset format if you’re not that much of a nerd.
