Over the years, iPhone has become one of the most sought-after mobile devices worldwide. Owning an iPhone means a lot to some people who try as much as possible to grab the latest iPhone on the market.
iPhones as we all know run on iOS. As time goes on, new updates are released. These new updates are filled with new technologies and features which put a lot of burden on your phone’s hardware. This will, in turn, cause your phone to lag and slow down over time.
Using an expensive iPhone which lags and slows can be very irritating that’s why in this post, I will be showing some ticks and tricks you can apply to increase the speed and functionality of your iPhone.
1. CLEAR YOUR PHONE MEMORY TO MAKE YOUR PHONE FASTER
Some people do not make their phones rest at all. Using your phone for a very long time can make it lag or slow down due to the numerous processes and apps that have to run to make your phone function. Clearing your phone memory will kill these processes and free up memory space to make your phone run faster.
The easiest way to clear your phone memory is to reboot your phone. If you want to clear your phone memory without rebooting your phone, hold down the power button and release it when the slide to power off prompt appears. Now hold down the home button until the home screen appears. This will clear your phone memory without the need for a reboot.
2. FREE PHONE STORAGE SPACE BY USING iCLOUD
Having low phone memory can make your phone lag so as having low storage space. Storing your data in the cloud will reduce the pressure on your phone storage space. Go to settings and navigate to iCloud to see how much space you have left on your free iCloud account. You can purchase more iCloud storage space if you have used up the free space.
Well, if you don’t want to spend money on your iCloud for more space, you can also connect your device to your PC or laptop and transfer your data onto your laptop. Another iCloud alternative is Google photos which offers more storage space compared to iCloud.
You can use these methods to free up your phone space and make your phone faster.
3. DELETE APPLICATIONS YOU DON’T USE
There are numerous apps out there and sometimes due to our desire to try most of them, we end up installing apps we don’t need. These apps will just consume both your phone storage and memory and in the end, make your phone lag.
Go through your apps and delete the ones you don’t use. Deleting these unnecessary apps will solve your lagging problem.
4. UNUSED AND OPEN APPLICATIONS MUST BE SHUT DOWN
You can use your phone for so long that you forget all the many applications you opened that may be slowing down your phone. To use your phone smoothly without any lags, make sure all unused applications are closed.
There’s no way to close all unused but open applications all at once so you have to close them one by one by double tapping your home button to reveal the open applications. Scroll through and shut down the applications you’re not using.
5. AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS AND BACKGROUND APP REFRESH MUST BE TURNED OFF
This trick will not only speed up your phone but will also prolong your battery life. Thing is, iPhone assumes users have unlimited data and phone memory to spare. So when you activate background app refresh, your phone makes sure that the applications you use are refreshed with fresh content.
This happens in the background without your notice and will consume your data and phone memory resulting in your phone lagging or running slow. To disable these features, go to Settings and navigate to General and toggle off Background App Refresh.
After that go back to settings and navigate to iTunes and App Store and tap on Apps and Updates under Automatic Downloads and toggle it off.
6. REDUCE MOTION AND TRANSPARENCY
Modern day mobile phones use special effects and other animations to enhance visual experience for their users. These animations and effects look very nice but they consume a lot of battery and also make your phone slow. Reducing them will do your phone a lot of good.
To reduce motion, go to Settings, navigate to General, select Accessibility, and toggle on Reduce Motion. This makes the phone feel smoother and faster because time will no longer be spent on animation and other effects.
7. RESET YOUR IPHONE
If after applying all the above tips and tricks your phone still lags and slows, then it’s time to reset it. Make sure that you backup all your important data before performing a factory reset.
To perform a factory reset, go to Settings, navigate to General and select Reset. Tap on Erase all content and settings. This will bring up a prompt, select Backup and erase to back up your files before resetting the device.
