Instagram just released a new feature which allows users to apply for verification starting from today. Accounts with a large following can now request for the blue tick by filling a form. This means that the days of waiting and hoping that Instagram verifies your account are over.
This is how what Instagram said in their announcement …
The blue verified badge is an important way for you to know that the account you are interacting with is the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, global brand or entity. Today we are enabling a new way for accounts that reach large audiences and meet our criteria to request verification through a form within the Instagram app.
Now here is how to you can apply for verification.
1. REQUEST FOR VERIFICATION
The first step is to request verification. All you have to do is to open your Instagram account, go to settings and navigate to Request Verification.
2. SUBMIT THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
After requesting for verification, you’ll be required to submit some documents. These documents should be relevant and they could be in the form of national ID cards, passport or driver’s license.
Instagram also accepts utility bills and business registration documents. Be rest assured that the documents you provide will not be made public.
3. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED AND WAIT FOR A REPLY
All that’s left now is to wait for the documents you submitted to be reviewed by Instagram. According to Instagram, you’ll receive a notification to let you know whether your application has been approved or not. You can wait and re-apply after 30 days if your application was rejected.
This feature according to Instagram is to help boost security and also let people know which accounts are authentic. Instagram describes an authentic account as one that represents a real person, or a registered business.
So before you request verification, make sure your account is authentic to avoid rejection of your application.
